Fritz Bultman in OHR-O'KEEFE Museum of Art - Access: Works from the Tougaloo College Art Collections, 1963 – 1967

During the height of the 1960’s American Civil Rights Movement, a group of New York based art activists and collectors who were committed to the idea of public access to the visual arts decided engage Tougaloo College in Mississippi. The idea was not only to have art on the campus and use art as a teaching tool for students at college, but to engage the greater community by establishing an art center in the heart of Mississippi. In 1963, the Tougaloo College Board of Trustees approved the Art Committee for Tougaloo College, headed by art critic Dore Ashton. Between 1963 until late 1967, works of art were sent to the college. Joan Miro, Fritz Bultman, Robert Motherwell and Hans Hofmann are among many of the artists who represent the early shipment of works to the college and are represented in this exhibition, Access: Works from the Tougaloo College Art Collections, 1963-1967, organized Turry M. Flucker, a graduate of Tougaloo College.

The Ogden continues its mission of propelling art of the American South by exhibiting this monumental bronze sculpture but Fritz Bultman in 4 elements. This, Fritz Bultman's largest and most important sculpture was acquired by a generous grant from the Helis Foundation and will remain on public view indefinitely. The family of Fritz Bultman is honor by this great tribute to Fritz Bultman and his legacy.

FRITZ BULTMAN: FORM, SPACE, SURFACE: PAINTINGS AND COLLAGES

Pavel Zoubok gallery, a staple of New York's gallery scene and specialist of the cut out exhibits a large scale colleges and paintings by Fritz Bultman. 

Fritz Bultman spent the better part of his career working in the medium. Heavily influenced by Matisse, Fritz Bultman along with others in his peer group like Motherwell, Krasner, and de Kooning sought to push the medium from the decretive to the "fine art." No other artist dedicate more time to this pursuit than Fritz Bultman. Fritz Bultman would constantly work in the medium until, like Matisse, his death in 1985.

On December 18th Nancy Hoffman Gallery opens “Cutout /Decoupage,” a response and homage to the Matisse cutouts now on view at MoMA.  The exhibition, which continues through January 24th, includes paper, plastic, steel and ceramic cutouts, as well as Asya Reznikov’s video in which a cutout bird lifts from the surface of a globe and appears to flutter and fly around the world, over land and sea.

Art Fit For a Skyscraper: Fritz Bultman Prominently Displayed in One World Trade Center

One World Trade Center opened its doors in Manhattan this week after 13 years of construction costing $3.9 billion. One of the many sensitive choices relating to a building conceived in difficult circumstances—it occupies a spot by the Twin Towers that collapsed after the terrorist attacks on September 11th 2001—was the selection of the art that adorns the lobby walls.
